Sociology of Childhood – Theorising Childhood

The European Sociological Association, Sociology of Children and Childhood Research Network is organising a Mid-term Symposium in June 18-20, 2012, University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Please submit your abstract and full contact details as electronic files no later than the 28th February 2012.

Time and place: Jun 18, 2012 - Jun 20, 2012, University of Jyväskylä, Finland

Although the focus of the symposium is around theorising childhood the papers for the sessions do not have to deal with the overall theme but is open to all core areas of the sociology of childhood. We invite experienced and young researchers from various disciplines sensitive to the sociology of childhood to participate. Although a particular focus to presentations and discussions will centre on theorising, participants are welcome to discuss also their implications for interdisciplinary work on childhood.

O presente artigo pretende contribuir para situar o leitor a respeito da história e do estado da arte dos estudos, teorias e autores relevantes na área de Ciências Sociais – Sociologia e Antropologia – no âmbito da Infância. O artigo apresenta as principais ideias que norteiam esses estudos e aponta para a importância de uma interlocução com as áreas de Psicologia do Desenvolvimento e Educação. Alguns caminhos metodológicos utilizados por antropólogos são citados, assim como referências bibliográficas essenciais.

Call for sessions

Research Committee on Sociology of Childhood, RC53, calls for session proposals on the topic: Children´s Voices, Well-Being and Social Justice.

We are interested in proposals for sessions that address the current state of children and meanings of childhood from different doorsteps of the world. We invite proposals for sessions that provide a platform for international and interactive discussions reflecting the most exciting work in the sociology of childhood and that address such relevant and timely concerns as:
